Hi Everybody,

I'm not sure this is a problem of the BOINC client of something with my XP installation: I have several icons stashed in my notification (tray) area so I keep most of them hidden all the time, and the BOINC icon is one of them (and quite frankly I really don't like that balloon thinghy), but it looks like every time I reboot the computer the icon reappears.

When I open the window to customize the notification area icons I noticed that BOINC client is listed as <untitled> and perhaps thats the reason why it keeps reappearing, since WinXP cannot identify it properly from previous sessions/settings it keeps putting it up in the tray area.

This is happening in both my XP boxes and only with the BOINC client icon, so I'm inclined to think this is problem related to application, not the OS. Any thoughs, or similar occurrences?

I didn't waited that long to see if it does, but I'm guessing it would, but it would only mean that the app went inactive. If I double-click it to bring up the Mgr or accidentally mouse-over it, it would become active (and visible) again. Since the "Hide when inactive" action is default setting for a new tray app, it really wouldn't address the problem of the setting "sticking" from one session to another, right? :)

It did lose it's title...

I've had a those preferences for the tray reset randomly upon reboot for random applications too. So I don't think it's unique to the <no title> thing. It must be a feature of XP :)

It wasn't intended to be tested at this time. It just happened to be part of the version they needed to use to check out a specific problem. The sorting is still far from being ready for testing. It still needs a lot of refinements before full testing of those features begins. The 'accidental' testing did provide the dev with some feedback on its deficiencies so I hope we will see it again before 5.10.x gets released.

There is a To-Do list. That one is for medium-to-large stuff, not for little bugs and glitches that need fixing.

This problem just appeared yesterday and I've only seen it in 5.8.11, which I installed two days ago. When the account in which I run BOINC goes into the background, after a while, BOINC Manager loses its connection with the core and the clients die (or maybe the reverse). I don't know if this time is fixed or variable. I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 on an Athlon XP 2000+. BOINC is running as a single-user install. This single user never logs off, but has to share with other users. I cannot provide more information yet.

What do you mean by this? Fast user switching?

If you use FUS, install either as a shared installation, or way better, install as a service. That way Boinc always runs, no matter who is logged on, or even when no one is logged on. The service install does require an administrator account with password for the install, though.
