I’ve been out of Linux for several years, and I’m back and want to get involved with Boinc. I can get it installed on my Mint Mate 22.4 (Wilma) but when I run the manager and join a group it gets as far as the 4 computers with the ball back and forth between the first two and then it either just blanks the box and locks up or moves to the next screen and clears it there and locks up. I’ve done both the ubuntu 24.04 and 22.04 installs and the ones at

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/linux_install.php?os_num=5&build=stable

and

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC_on_Debian_or_Ubuntu.

I would include the log if I could find it. If anyone can tell me where to find it I'll post it.

Captain Quack.

logs will be either in /var/lib/boinc or /var/lib/boinc-client
They recently swapped to the former for me following the instructions from the first of the two links you posted. (I installed the scary one (8.1.0). I am on Ubuntu 24.10 having recently upgraded from 24.04.
I can't think of an obvious reason for the symptoms you describe. Is it possible you have a firewall preventing boinc from speaking to the projects?
