Hi
Updated Ubuntu 24.04 after a few weeks of downtime and now BOINC won't run.

I get the following error:

I've tried purging boinc and boinc-client then reinstalling but still get the same error?

Can anyone help?

I updated from 22.04 to 22.10 a few days ago and running the same command I get,

Might give more clues to others if you gave a bit more information. Did you use the distributions repository or the one from following the instructions to get the most up to date one from the Berkley site? (I did that and got the nightly build 8.1.0

When you purged boinc and boinc-client did you check that /var/lib/boinc-client was actually deleted? I know I had an occasion when I had to manually delete the files there.

Hey thank you for your reply! I installed from the repository, which installs 7.24.1

After purging I did not check if /var/lib/boinc-client was actually deleted, but I do remember apt asking if I wanted to delete the associated directories to which I replied Yes.

How can I get the latest version installed? Might give that a go.

In the drop down box which by default has the recommanded version 8.0.2 by default there is also a choice for the nightly build 8.1.0 or the development version 8.0.4.
8.0.4 fixes a bug that allows several tasks that will use a lot of memory while running to start because they don't use that much on start up. Instead it takes the maximum memory the task will use from one of the task files. (If CPDN, LHC and possibly one or two others are projects you are signed up to it may be worth going to 8.0.4 and accepting the small risk of running the development version. 8.1.0 is the nightly build from git-hub.
