BOINC Version: 8.0.2 Windows 11 Downloaded and installed new version. Previously I had added BOINC Manager to the Taskbar. After install, clicking on the taskbar icon claimed that the application had been removed. I located the BOINC Manager executable here ("C:\Program Files\BOINC\boincmgr.exe") and dragged it from File Explorer to the taskbar to pin it. When I click on the taskbar icon, a message is displayed that "Another instance of BOINC Manager is already running.", but the Manager still appears. How do I Iaunch BOINC Manager from the taskbar without this error? I did notice the BOINC Manager is running when viewing the background processes with Task Manager. Is this a change for version 8.0.2? It shows in the Settings -> Apps -> Startup list as well. |

I have also noticed the "Another instance of BOINC Manager is already running." message, even though on checking task manager there wasn't another instance running. Is this the equivalent of the boincmanager-username file needing to be deleted on Linux? The latest version on Linux now gives a message that another instance of the manager is running in this situation. I didn't pay too much attention to it as I thought it might be a peculiarity of running in a VM. |

It appears that I am running up against the same problem that I reported here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=15090&postid=112709 When I review the System Task tray settings (Personalization -> Taskbar -> Other system tray icons), the BOINC Manager entry is set to off, but the icon is present in the task tray. I am running Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.3737) according to "winver". |

I also have the pop up saying another version of BOINC is already running. How do I stop this? BOINC needs to issue an update to correct this! It's their mistake! |

This issue has been reported to the developers, at https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/5655 Unfortunately, they have a different view of the change: in the ivory towers of Berkeley, they regard this as an 'information' message, rather than an 'error' message. It primarily affects Windows users, who normally run the BOINC package in user mode, rather than service mode. I'm surprised to hear the report of it appearing in a Linux environment. I haven't yet found exactly when this latest change was made, and what exactly justification was given - if any. When I find it, I'll report back. |

Found it: https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/pull/5485 Surprised me: Vitalii flying solo. [No explanation, no discussion, no code reviewer] Not sure what we do about that. |

Does that mean you can't run two clients anymore and two managers, one per client? |

Does that mean you can't run two clients anymore and two managers, one per client?I don't think that would be affected. It was always something that you had to enable specifically via a config file. And for both a duplicated client and a duplicated manager, give them separate port numbers to use. |
