WCG is having problems again. Extremely hard to get any work, and the website and forum is very slow.

Often replies with:

503 Service Unavailable
No server is available to handle this request.

Or even replies with the dreaded "Log in" popup.

Well, we had a bit of "503 Service Unavailable" today too, and an extremely slow website. It seems to be alright now though. I'm crunching so little now, so I really can't judge whether or not tasks are flowing or not. My need for tasks, are just a couple of MCM tasks/day.

WCG website went kapoof.

The forum with:
SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /forums/wcg/listrecentthreads has not been defined.
SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle www.worldcommunitygrid.org:443 has not been defined.

And the other pages with the well known:

Edit, added: That was a short outage. The WCG website is back again.

New Forum Implemented with Discourse, SSO with your WCG Account, Feedback Request for Volunteers

Hi All,

We have deployed a new forum using the open source Discourse platform, implementing SSO so that you can sign in with your WCG accounts. We invite you to provide feedback, report issues, and generally evaluate the new platform at your leisure:

While the default theme is currently dark, you can change it by going to account settings after logging in:
1. Click on your avatar in the top right after logging in
2. Go to "Preferences" -> "Interface" -> "Theme" and changing the theme to Solarized or WCGA Light.

We will be able to bring badges, emojis, stats, the word game/highest batch threads, and any other data/asset to Discourse, so please let us know which features you feel we should prioritize.

We are migrating to the Nibi cloud before the end of August. Our intent is to review feedback about the Discourse forum and desired feature set after the migration is complete, and we can then begin to build out the Discourse site with additional content and direct attention to the new community site more broadly.

If the move to Discourse is not seen as a positive direction by active users of the forums, we will of course re-evaluate.

The DB just became unavailable. "Server can't open database." And the result page is just spinning....

Database node went down. Unfortunately, I'm not able to bring the VM back up myself this time. I have reached out to hosting about it, they have not yet replied so likely tomorrow morning we're back up after crash recovery.

With the migration to Nibi,
a) optimistically, no more expiring DHCP lease issue which was the reason we were given for this behaviour where nodes occasionally just lose connectivity on all interfaces until reboot
b) sharding, replication, so that we no longer have SPOF database node

A few days ago I added a new device to the project. Since then, I became WU's,
but the new device didn't show up in the "device list". On the other hand, the
WU's are listed with the correct new device name in the "result list".
At the moment, my "result list" contains nearly 2500 items, wich is very much.
I am not quite sure, if all resend WU's from the new device are counted.
So I think, somthing doesn't work properly there.

Update: Now the next device shows up in the list, with more than 500 "result returned",
more than 24 days of runtime, but - strange - in the column "Last result" : "No results".
I don't think, that the results are summed up in the overall statistic.
Today is the 5th day of computing for the new device.

Since Krembil took over WCG several years ago, lot's of things have been broken or work intermittently.

The new device on an account is one of the things that is broken and can take 1 or 2 weeks to show up on your account.

If after 2 weeks it's not on your account you should post a message on the WCG FORUM titled Missing Devices in My Contribution. Make sure you provide the host name and device number in your message, someone from WCG will look into it and reply to your message in the forum usually after a few days.
