Good idea. There's so much crap going on with WCG, so it really needs its own thread.

What a crappy way to bite the hand that feeds you ... They treat the people who provides them with the refined data to perform their scientific data analysis like we don't matter to them! NO SHAME!

Yeah, Cyclops, the communications intern, who started his/her "job", on Jun 13, 2022 certainly haven't improved on his/her communication skills.
He/she need to ask the tech people on a daily basis, for more data about the problems they are facing, and regularly inform us volunteers. The way
they treat people now, is simply not acceptable, and will only lead to people leaving the project. I'm stubborn though, and i will stay, until I die, or the
WCG project dies.

Nothing from Krembil about WCG status update today. I'll guess that the recovery process is still ongoing.

I get it now. They ordered new hardware, and it's being delivered from China, on a rowboat.
Of course, that's the only explanation for 3-weeks of BOINC downtime.

I like it! Of course the problem with the picture is that it actually shows two functioning oars. I suspect they have less than two.

BOINC server is not fully running, and has not been running for 3-weeks. Which has been stated many times on the WCG forum.

BOINC database is UP
The BOINC database is now up and running, joining the website/forums database which has been up since last week.
However, upload/download of workunits is paused until we restore the parallel filesystem that supports the workunit
management stack, to the state it was in at the time of the hardware failure. Deadlines have been extended and valid
results computed during this pause will be credited when we resume.

So, of course there is no work. There has not been any work at all since the big hardware failure on March 1 (2).
The whole shebang, including the website and forum was down for 13 (14) days. The website and forum came
back on March 13, with frequent crashes, but BOINC has not been seen alive for 3+ weeks.

Boinc Log:

Hmm, another possible explanation for why it takes 3+ (and counting) weeks to fix this hardware problem, is that the backups are stored on
6 million, 5 1/4 Inch floppy disks. If that's the case, I fear that BOINC on WCG will not restart before the year 2030.

If there had been more / better communication from the WCG project team during this extended failure (and previous ones) volunteers would be more relaxed. As it is, the black humour of the photos above brighten my wait for something approaching normal service to be resumed. (But then I am a Brit living in EUrope and bleak humour is all I have to sustain me!)
