Hey....Boinc is running on startup so that it will function as a screensaver....however its processing in the background as i am working, eating up valuable system resources. I know Im donating computing time to science, but I'd like to keep it within reason!! LOL. How do I get the program to process only when the computer is inactive?? |

Go to the project site you attached to, Your Account, General Preferences, Edit preferences, Change "Do work while computer is in use?" to No, save changes with Update preferences at the bottom. Open Boinc Manager, Projects tab, select that project, click on Update. |

I know Im donating computing time to science, but I'd like to keep it within reason!! LOL. It runs on the CPU time you aren't using. If you use 25%, BOINC will take 75% without slowing down anything. If you still don't want it to run while you're at the computer, do what Ageless said on the previous post :) |

Thanks for your help guys....Now question #2.....the program runs when im not on the computer, however a message on the screen saver now reads that activity is suspended. Nothing is listed as suspended in the Boinc manager. Any ideas on that? |

The 'do work while computer is in use' sometimes interprets the screensaver as work on some PCs. As long as you're not low on memory, the CPU time by Boinc shouldn't have any effect on your use of the system (it's at 'low' priority). |

You could disable the screensaver. You'd still be able to view the graphics window and see what your workunit's doing by restarting theworkunit and using the View grahics button in the boinc manager. |
