I shut down BOINC before gaming (Star Citizen needs the RAM) by suspending all projects then exiting BOINC (File > Exit BOINC). However, my RAM usage remained at 64% until I performed an End Task on all the "VirtualBox Headless Frontend" processes. This dropped my RAM usage down to ~ 25%. I also noticed the "BOINC client" task is still running. "Exit BOINC" needs to EXIT BOINC and terminate all associated tasks. |

I quickly found the solution to my problem: "Leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended" was checked under Computing Preferences. Unchecking this quickly freed up my RAM when I suspended Projects. I'm fairly certain this was checked by default and I would ask BOINC to leave it unchecked. |

It certainly used to be unchecked by default. There is also the stop running tasks dialogue when closing down the manager that shuts down the client which does not need the manager in order to run. Some projects are more prone to errors if this is unchecked, CPDN is among them. |
