actually I'm preparing a tutorial about a BOINC server set up during the linuxdays conference in Luxembourg (www.linuxdays.lu). As I want to introduce BOINC with a brief development history I would like to collect some time line milestones. Could someone point me to some of the dates like initial project start and the first release?

BOINC went live with the release of the SETI@home application, so if you delve back to the first posts in the SETI@home message boards, you'll find the beginning. Up until then, BOINC was in Beta.

Unfortunately the first Beta site (http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/) was scrapped, so it's not so easy to get anything definitive further back, unless the project admins can release backup data to you. As a guideline, I joined the BOINC Beta on 24th November 2003, but was not among the first, as others had already been Beta'ing quite some time before me. You can still view project notes on the original Beta site http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/ to help with dates and things as well.

You can also trawl through the old SETI@home news for dates and events.

I was one of the first involved in BOINC outside of the on-campus Berkeley staff. I did manage to preserve a reasonably accurate start date (+- 2 days) for my participation in my sig.

I got the answers from David about some of the boinc milestones.

- Initially the BOINC project started in February 2002
- First release 10th April 2002
- First BOINC based project was Predictor@home launched on 9th June 2004

Nope predictor was first. SETI was still in beta for a few more weeks after that.

Welcome to the new SETI@home! The project is now officially active. We've reset the project by deleting all results and workunits, and setting all credits (user, team, host) to zero. Thanks to everyone who participated in the alpha and beta tests for their help in debugging SETI@home and BOINC.

Two reasons for that:
1. Predictor came from almost nothing, while SETI came from SETI Classic and the BOINC Beta Test.
2. Predictor had no work for the last 8 months.
