On my elderly macintosh, Boinc has ceased to communicate with its project-servers for (seti@home, rosetta@home and asteroids@home). The log shows one error ("Virtual Box not installed"). Else it only says "communication delayed" ... I have removed and re-installed the Boinc-Software, with no change for the better. Can anybody help, please? Edit: Sorry, forgot the details. SETI@home shut down way back, (SETI@home), the asteroids@home project has been down (I think) for most of the year, (this thread), which just leaves rosetta@home. Not sure what's happening there at the moment. |

First thing SETI project is inactive and has no servers to connect to anymore. Second, your BOINC version is not listed on the BOINC page so I don't know its build date but all of the BOINC clients started having an issue at the end of September because of an expired security certificate. So a rushed 7.16.20 version was released to temp fix the issue but that was just for Windows. Don't know anything about your MacOS version which has a later build version than what is listed on the BOINC site so maybe that issue has been fixed for MacOS already too. If you enable http_debug in the cc_config file you would get much more detail about what the connection issue is. |

Hey Keith, thanks for answering. So Seti is inactive, shame, I'll kick it from the projects then. But the problem - as I wrote - is for all projects, not only Seti. So, seems I'll just have to wait until a new version for MacOS is released. Thank you! Subject is closed then, as far as I'm concerned. |

As I mentioned if you turn on http_debug flag in the Event Log options, and then do an update on all your projects, the Event Log will show detailed connection messages to each project. Within those messages look for unable to connect messages because of no valid OpenSSL certificate or similar messages. If that is the case you would need to upgrade the BOINC certs package. But I don't know how your MacOS BOINC is packaged. On traditional Linux hosts, the OpenSSL certs package is handled by the OS and not BOINC. So Linux hosts were never bothered too much by the expired root certificate issue at the end of September. There was plenty of forum traffic on this topic in early October but I don't remember much if anything about what MacOS had issues with since I know nothing about the hardware or platform. |
