Sometimes similar (or often nearly identical) threads are being created in various message boards within a projects - e.g. some important note (with following ideas) for many readers, which is not suitable for the project's news area. The posters then try to keep the threads in sync and the readers try to find out, whether the contents was identical or they missed something.

This situation could be overcome if such thread could be visible from various boards - like Number Crunching, Cafe Lounge, Science, Team Talk... the way like shared memory or soft links to files. It'd be off course enough if moderators (and not the regular posters) had the powers to promote a thread to be shared between boards.

What do you think of it?

Needs huge modifications to the boards. Probably won't be done.

I don't think it would need so huge modifications. Wouldn't it be just changing "where category=X" to "where category=X or shared=1" in forum_forum.php? (I'm not sure if it is 'category' for that, but you get the idea).

However I don't think this addition would be useful.
