When I leave the computer on for a while I get what I assume is the screen saver from boinc and one of the pages shows the layout of the stars visible from the earth but from well outside the galaxy.
Is it possible to view this page without waiting for it to show again on the screensaver?

Which projects are you running?
What is shown as a screen saver, is from whatever project is running at the time.

Also, there are NO stars outside the galaxy, except for those in other galaxies.

It sounds like he is running the Einstein project and is seeing it's screen saver when the computer is running one of it's tasks.

Like Les said, there is no way to run the screen saver outside BOINC while running.one of the project tasks. It is using data within the running Einstein task(s) to generate the "star map".

Yes,
Thank you for the replies it is the Einstein one I am running when I see it.
I don't mean stars from outside the galaxy I mean the view from outside the milkyway galaxy
Does anyone know if it is possible to view it or something similar elsewhere?
Thanks,
Bob.

That would be a question best asked in the forums at Einstein@home.

The best forum category probably would be Cruncher's Corner.

So how are you going to view the Milkyway Galaxy from within the Milkyway Galaxy?

Only artistic representations of the galaxy can be presented. For example, historical representations have always presented the MW galaxy as a standard spiral galaxy.
However, new data gathered from scientific examinations now tell us that the MW galaxy is in fact a barred spiral galaxy.
So the latest artistic representations are like this:
