I am running BOINC 5.8.0 and during the install process I get the following: "Error 1905 Boinc.dll failed to unregister HRESULT -2147220472" Also, just before I upgraded from 5.4.11 on one of my Laptops I was getting the "BOINC cannot connext to client error" Another problem I have with all my PC's is when I need to shutdown I get a box saying that "Windows is unable to shutdown BOINC.exe". Most of the time it does ok but a few times I had to click on "End Now" so Windows could shutdown. I am running both XP Home and Pro and I am running 5.8.0 on all PC's at this time. Thanks for any help you can give me! |

"Error 1905 Boinc.dll failed to unregister HRESULT -2147220472" This error can occur when an expected component of an application is not present when uninstalling of an earlier version. This can be during the actual uninstall, or during the upgrade process. The solution, when this is the cause, is to uninstall the old version manually and restart the system. If the uninstall is still failing, use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to get rid of the old BOINC version. It'll be in the list as a no-named entry or a corrupt one. Do not remove any of the other .MSI entries in the list! Another problem I have with all my PC's is when I need to shutdown I get a box saying that "Windows is unable to shutdown BOINC.exe". Most of the time it does ok but a few times I had to click on "End Now" so Windows could shutdown. This can be attributed to a quick shutdown time on applications. See this entry in the MSKB which will show you how to pro-long the time-out period. Exiting BOINC manually before a shutdown is also an option. |
