I'm really confused. I did a forum search and came up with not 1 (one) thread on Chromebook or Chrome OS. -which I suppose gives me my answer. I recently bought a Chromebook: Lenovo C340 11" IntelĀ® CeleronĀ® N4000 Processor (1.10 GHz, up to 2.60 GHz with Turbo Boost, 2 Cores, 2 Threads, 4 MB Cache) Chrome OS 83.0.4103.112 (Official Build) (64-bit) - as up to date as possible Memory 4 GB LPDDR4 2400MHz (Soldered) Hard Drive 64 GB eMMC Boinc Android app 7.4.53 - newly downloaded It accepts Android apps from the Google Playstore and I downloaded the Boinc Android App. It installed and I was able to connect it up to World Community Grid. Downloaded a Covid-19 WU and crashed. I'm a fairly confident user, but not a tech geek (no insults intended) and totally new to Chromebooks.[/img] PS: Been crunching on and off since 2004 |

It's either to do with an illegal system call done by the science app (and you should report this to the project), see https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2017/07/seccomp-filter-in-android-o.html?m=1. Or it's to do with your CPU being 64bit and your OS being 64bit, but the science applications being 32bit. To be able to run 32bit applications on 64 bit Linux-derived OSes you must install 32bit versions of certain shared libraries and that's impossible on Android and Chrome OS. The fix here is to ask the project to update their science applications. Aside from all that, the 7.4.53 version of BOINC is now so old that it's got several security problems. The developers are in high gear rewriting it from the ground up so it works from Android 4.4 to any next new update, but no ETA on when they're done |

Thank you, Jord. Much appreciated. I guess I will hold off on the Chromebook for the moment. I have copied your answer on the WCG forums for their info too. |
