Hi there, is there any idea or project for creating the app indicator for e.g. Ubuntu Linux?

I think it could be nice to have an option to
- see the calculation status (running / paused / stalled)
- be able to manually switch those states
- be able to launch BOINC Manager from the indicator
- see other stuff like projects / tasks (amount? details?) / etc.
- or even affect stuff :)

I guess it would be interesting for all distros using GNOME Shell.

You mean something like Boinctui? https://code.google.com/archive/p/boinctui/

Nope. Seems that the tray indicator is not available.

1- This is about Linux (specifically, GNOME based distro)
2- I am not looking for text-based UI or "top-like" app, but GNOME app tray indicator.

The system tray icon for BOINC relates specifically to the Manager component, not to BOINC itself. The scientific calculations can continue whether or not the Manager is active.

The Linux platform developers have decided that for their purposes, the tray icon introduces complications that make it too hard to maintain and run BOINC on their platform. See Disabled Manager system tray icon for Linux builds for further information.

The link tells you what files were changed so I guess rolling your own, you could try and put it back it?

I liked it but looking at the link to git-hub I can see that those with computers where the owners don't want the end user to have access to everything would prefer not to have it.

Surely, in the same way as leaving the Manager in the Tasks page does, the processing required to keep the icon up to date would take away from processing the WUs.

Why would you want to do that when the functions you want are readily available in the Manager?
