I would like to run BOINC on another PC that is Not connected to the Internet or a LAN.

Can I copy the BOINC directory to this PC, run BOINC, and when the data is complete, copy the data file to the registered PC for updloading the completed results?

So far, I have copied the BOINC directory to a 2nd PC and it is running ok. It also seems to have correctly started running from where the host PC left off..
I don't know if the results will be valid and if I can upload the results from the internet PC.

BOINC needs an internet connection. Any host PC (hostID) is unique, it gets its work only once. Each work unit is registered to that hostID.

Now, you can travel back and forth between a PC with internet and the one without, but that gets tedious in the end. Because you have to copy the whole BOINC directory plus subdirectories to the other PC, then when it's done, copy the whole BOINC directory and subdirectories back to a PC that has an internet connection, reinstall BOINC, let it upload and report the work, download new work and start the whole process from the beginning.

Any work sent in double will not get credit. It's disregarded.

So you decide if you want to do this tedious copying and reinstalling.
Or get that PC an internet connection. ;-)

an internet connection would make things a lot easier, but if you've got a usb drive to move the files on then it can be done. Its probably not wise running directly from the USB drive though as they have a limited write capacity.

You just need to install boinc to a different folder than it runs in on the internet connected comp, and get it running Rosetta. Get a large queue and set a long run-time so it's got plenty to do. Then Exit BOINC and copy the folder to the same folder on the no-net computer, and start it by running boincmgr.exe.

You just need to exit BOINC and copy it back to the same location on the net pc every time to send/receive.

Just incase, if you need to change the location that Rosetta is running from, it's stored twice in the file BOINC\\slots\\0\\init_data.xml

Thanks very much Danny.. I do have a USB drive...so it looks like it wouldn't be tooooo bad if I only run a "different" project on the non-connected PC..... Well I ended up getting a router...re-configed the 2nd PC.. and I'm "On Line" .. :) ..running multiple projects!

I have done this a few times when my DELL LAPTOP was overheating I transfer the BOINC folder to my Toshiba Laptop and allowed it to finish the WU's and then transfered it back to the DELL to get it upload the WU's (I then retired the DELL!)
