Since installing version 7.16.6 on my Macintosh running macOS Catalina (10.15.4) the following happens:

when I start running BOINC the Manager is totally unresponsive for a minute and then says "Communicating with BOINC client. Please wait ...". It is then again unresponsive and never (as in for hours) comes back to life.

Any help?

Installed 7.16 and had this same problem. Had to REMOVE Bionc and reinstall..

Removing Boinc and reinstall did not work for me.
Did you do something special in the process?
