Which executable was mentioned in the error message, was it boinc.exe by any chance?

Which installation did you sellect? (single user, multi user, service?)

In total I found about 8 posts mentioning this particular problem on the CPDN boards. No clear answers though.

I found a couple of posts which suggested that it can sometimes be caused by underlying disk problems : http://bbc.cpdn.org/forum_thread.php?id=3375, and a couple more saying they tried that and it didn't help. Your mileage may vary...

An unusual number of posts mention running as a service, why this would make a difference I can't imagine. Nobody tried or suggested changing the installation method.

Other posts seem to imply that the installation had become corrupted, they downloaded the software again and it seemed to be OK after that.
