New inverter for solar panels that get feed in tariff ordered. Old one has packed up after 12 years. New one about 5% more efficient according to spec and kicks in at a lower voltage so should get something at light levels old one didn't produce anything. Will assuming it arrives when I have been told, will connect it up tomorrow. |

If we did not have enough things to interfere with BOINC running correctly... Brian Krebs of Krebs on Security is reporting Norton 360 Now Comes With a Cryptominer Norton 360, one of the most popular antivirus products on the market today, has installed a cryptocurrency mining program on its customers’ computers. Norton’s parent firm says the cloud-based service that activates the program and allows customers to profit from the scheme — in which the company keeps 15 percent of any currencies mined — is “opt-in,” meaning users have to agree to enable it. Yea, they claim it's "opt-in" (for now)... but how many people just click through the "yes/agree" install prompts without reading what's on the screen? |

All through December, someone was sending me emails to try and get me to renew a subscription to McAfee antivirus. I've never used it, and the addresses used looked suspicious, so I assumed it was a malware scam of some sort. Not even sure that it works on Linux. |

Link for Linux version {url=https://www.mcafee.com/enterprise/en-gb/products/virusscan-enterprise-for-linux.html]here[/url] I use clamAV once a month to see if anything dodgy has arrived by email to stop me passing it on to my Windows friends. who are rather more vulnerable to such things. |

Funny. I'm watching TechLinked from Linus Tech Tips, news about the new AMD 7000 series chips. Sample chips are out there being used by people. Then a screen from a computer account in one of the BOINC projects is shown to show its capabilities. So, anyone can guess which project uses that colour scheme? |

The Zen 4 ES chips were being used a bit after Xmas at Milkyway@home. A 16 core and 8 core. The integer benchmarks on the 8 core were out of this world. They never ran the benchmarks on the 16 core. But the completion times were nothing unusual compared to their wingmen. |

The integer benchmarks on the 8 core were out of this world. They never ran the benchmarks on the 16 core. Don't know about Milky Way but for CPDN it is the floating point benchmark that is significant. |

for CPDN it is the floating point benchmark that is significant.I'd say that's true of most scientific projects, except the pure mathematics ones. |

How about: A rocket launched by Elon Musk's space exploration company is on course to crash into the Moon and explode. The Falcon 9 booster was launched in 2015 but after completing its mission, it did not have enough fuel to return towards Earth and instead remained in space. |

Before anyone blames me again: Highway Code: 'Dutch reach' rule change to Highway Code welcomed, do know we don't have anything like that, but we do learn from the first lesson to check mirrors before doing anything with the car: change lane, drive away, park or unpark and before you step out of your car. |
