Hey everyone, I'm glad I finally decided to check out these forums about BOINC. I'm still confused though. Not that it's a big surprise. I just recently built a Linux web/file server using the Ubuntu 6.10 Server edition. It does not have an X installation. I got the BOINC client and got it all extracted. I'm running ./run_client in a screened process. For the life of me, without being able to use a gui interface, I can't get any of my projects to attach. I've tried john@venus ~/BOINC$ ./boinc_cmd --attach http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ I don't understand what the auth part of the --attach switch does and why I need it. Can someone help me out here please so I can stick a few more Linux/FreeBSD boxes up here? Thanks in advance. John |

The authenticator is a 32 digit hex number, the client uses it to identify your account. If you have a host that is already attached you can copy the account*.xml file to the new host and restart the client to attach. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |
