Saw a thread or two about this. But I have no idea how to reply to a thread! No Reply button. I just set the Options/ Computing Preferences Suspend GPU Computing timeout to 9999 minutes, which is nearly 7 days. Graphics adapter is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 My reason for trying this is that something is causing my Windows PC to freeze - no BSOD, no response to keyboard or mouse, display frozen. I think I have narrowed it down to BOINC. But it only happens every few days, so not 100% yet. |

Go to the project's website, your account, project preferences, edit them for the correct venue (default, work, home, school) and uncheck "Use Intel GPU?", save changes to the website. The next time BOINC contacts that project it will get those preferences in. You will have to do this at all projects you don't want to use the Intel GPU. |

I would go about in reverse. There should be a setting in config, where you can (only) use a specific graphics card (or cards). See: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/GPU_computing |

Which would be great if all projects made exactly the same use of GPUs, and all users wanted to use the same combination of GPUs for all projects they run - but neither is the case. |

I would go about in reverse. I agree, but you should not stop at just a config setting First, the <exclude_gpu> should be rename to "<use_gpu> so that a "0" or a "1" can be changed. Currently to re-enable use of an excluded GPU the xml code must be commented out or deleted and a "read config" command issued unless you want to reboot. What could be be done is up to the imagination: From boinc manager, select a project Select "properties" of that project Imagine observing a bunch of check-boxes, one for each GPU and in group boxes named "NVidia" or "ATI" or "Intel". If you uncheck a box [X] boinc is told to put a '0' on the appropriate <use_gpu> and issue a "read config". Would look something like the following ![]() |
