I'm going on vacation from Dec 21st to Jan 5. The computer will be running, but no network while I'm gone. My current crop of projects (WCG, Asteroids@home) all have tasks that deadline before I get back. Any recommendations for projects that I can run while I'm gone that have deadlines greater than 2 weeks? I'd heard climateprediction.net might? Any other recommendations? |

climateprediction.net doesn't have a hard deadline. It's just ASAP. But the current research is running on Linux, with Windows work few and far between. For that, the models do run for 1-2 weeks on a reasonably fast computer. PS For those running Linux, they're 32 bit models, so make sure those libs are installed. |

In fact. the deadlines are so long that some lunatics save the results for several months and only upload them after a contest starts. I plan to do that myself on the next WOW event as I got left behind on the last one. If you find a project with the correct deadline but it does not give you enough work units, you can artificially raise your CPU count to get more. There is a setting in cc_config to allow the cpu count to be raised. I have not done that myself as I don't run that many CPU bound tasks. |

SETI deadlines are in the region of one to two months which may be of use to you. CPDN deadlines are really long, getting on towards a year, but their tasks take a days to complete. |

In cpdn, the "one year" is an arbitrarily long period, chosen to prevent BOINC from running cpdn, (with very long run times), to the exclusion of tasks from other projects, (with, usually very short run times). It should be a lot shorter, now that cpdn tasks don't run for 6-8 months. As I said in the previous post, the researchers want their results as soon as possible, and the more recent model types only run for days/weeks. And there are a few that take less than a day. |

I don't know if QMC are still sending out work units, but I have 7 "cleanmobility.now 6.06" jobs running on here, all of them have already used 20+ days CPU time, (4GHz i7). I've seen in another thread that it may be difficult to get work at the moment though. I'd be careful about taking them on, there are a number of issues which makes them "rather odd". They start fairly normally and run up to 70% odd, they then write a checkpoint and drop back to 1% done, and crawl forward for weeks. Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

Well this is discouraging! Logged into Seti@home with my account and I keep getting messages the project has no units to give. Tried climateprediction.net and got an error that account creation is disabled! |

SETI has had a couple of nasty server bumps recently and so many people are suffering from not getting work all the time. |
