At work I'm using BOINC 4.72 and for some reason it keeps downloading images again and again. Here is a sample: 11/14/2006 7:30:29 PM|Pirates@Home|Sending scheduler request to http://pirates.spy-hill.net/cgi-bin/scheduler 11/14/2006 7:30:29 PM|Pirates@Home|Reason: To fetch work 11/14/2006 7:30:29 PM|Pirates@Home|Requesting 259200 seconds of work, returning 0 results 11/14/2006 7:30:30 PM|Pirates@Home|Scheduler request to http://pirates.spy-hill.net/cgi-bin/scheduler succeeded 11/14/2006 7:30:30 PM|Pirates@Home|No work from project 11/14/2006 7:30:31 PM|Pirates@Home|Deferring communication with project for 1 hours, 26 minutes, and 13 seconds 11/14/2006 7:30:31 PM|Pirates@Home|Started download of arecibo_181.png 11/14/2006 7:30:31 PM|Pirates@Home|Started download of sah_40.png 11/14/2006 7:30:32 PM|Pirates@Home|Finished download of arecibo_181.png 11/14/2006 7:30:32 PM|Pirates@Home|Throughput 482525 bytes/sec 11/14/2006 7:30:32 PM|Pirates@Home|Finished download of sah_40.png 11/14/2006 7:30:32 PM|Pirates@Home|Throughput 54099 bytes/sec 11/14/2006 7:30:32 PM|Pirates@Home|Started download of sah_banner_290.png 11/14/2006 7:30:32 PM|Pirates@Home|Started download of sah_ss_290.png 11/14/2006 7:30:33 PM|Pirates@Home|Finished download of sah_banner_290.png 11/14/2006 7:30:33 PM|Pirates@Home|Throughput 271860 bytes/sec 11/14/2006 7:30:33 PM|Pirates@Home|Finished download of sah_ss_290.png 11/14/2006 7:30:33 PM|Pirates@Home|Throughput 323631 bytes/sec Any reason why all of a sudden? |

Those images are used in the new BOINC with the simple GUI. Are you deleting them, or is your BOINC deleting them on each startup? Anyway, it's a benign problem. You could solve it by using a newer BOINC version anyway. I haven't heard of anyone on a 5.4.x version having this problem. |

BOINC deletes them as soon as they download as far as I can tell. I haven't been able to use a 5.4.x version yet at work. |

Try copying them off your home PC and writing to the same location on your work PC's boinc installation. If they disappear then set the 'readonly' flag. |

Hadn't thought about that. I'll give it a try. |

I did not find these files on any of my computers at home. :( Try to download them from my site then. They're in a zip file. Exit Boinc. Unzip the files to \\Boinc\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu\\ Make them read only (properties of each file). Restart Boinc. Setigraphics.zip |

The first post was about Pirates but it looks like they have new ones. Ah, but those I can put easily on here... I made them ;) (just holler and I'll put them on here in zip format as well as the CPDNs) You could of course update to the latest Boinc version in test: 5.7.3 Then it won't download those files over and over. Although, hold on, as 5.7.4 is about to be released tonight. The 5.7.x versions all have a fix for proxy server problems... |
