Over at SETI, I have noticed that computers running BOINC 4.45 either over claim or under claim credit by a large margin ... 10 to 20%. I understand that the BOINC manager does not do any number crunching ... basically only data transfer and automatic application updates.

Does anyone know why BOINC 4.45 would affect the claimed credit?

The answer when it comes to Seti is that Seti Enhanced is now being used. One of the key features of Seti Enhanced is that it calculates the credits through the amount of floating point operations that your CPU (or more specifically your FPU) does during the crunching of a result.

BOINC 4.45 (and all other Boinc version up to 5.2.8) doesn't know how to translate this. And so it is constantly asking the wrong credit. If you want to claim the correct credit, you need to use a newer BOINC version.
