My Windows Machine - Windows 10 x64 v1809, all latest updates as of 19th Jan 2019. 16GB DDR4 RAM, Core i7 8700K, Geforce GTX 1080 Ti, on a Gigabyte Z370 HD3-CF using F8 BIOS. Running Boinc v7.14.2 (x64). GPU driver is 417.71 My event log is empty, so nothing to copy. I installd Boinc a few days ago onto this machine, everything works fine. I then install Boinc on my Android tablet and Android smartphone. Due to some shenanigans regarding passwords, I reset my Boinc password on one of those two devices (can't remember which now). I got home from work today, fire up Boinc on my Windows machine, but when the client starts, I am unable to select any projects. There are no projects or tasks to select. I am unable to go into "Computing Preferences" (nothing happens). When I click on "Tools" -> "Add Project", I get "The password you have provided is incorrect, please try again". Same when I try "Use Account Manager". There is apparently nowhere for me to sign out of my account or to try entering the new password. I have tried uninstalling Boinc then reinstalling, but no luck. |

I understand that uninstalling keeps the folders with that information. Perhaps look for where the BOINC data folders are and delete them. Not sure how password is stored or if it is easy to extract it from the Android Folders but, the account keys for your projects are in files named account_climateprediction.net.xml and I believe you should be able to log on somehow with that. Otherwise, with the email can you not go to the project/account manager sites and request to change your password? |

I understand that uninstalling keeps the folders with that information. Perhaps look for where the BOINC data folders are and delete them. I had a hunt around for said data folders, and all I found were a bunch of .txt files that were literally blank. As for going onto the websites and requesting a change of password...I don't think that would help. The windows client doesn't ask me for my account or password when I launch it, or does there seem to be any option within it to bring it up. Changing my password is what created this mess to begin with; this change wasn't communicated to the Windows client, which as I said, doesn't ask me for my password anymore. I suppose I could just run a VM... |

Not sure how password is stored or if it is easy to extract it from the Android Folders but, the account keys for your projects are in files named account_climateprediction.net.xml Done a bit of research since my first answer. It seems you can't get at the BOINC data files under android unless you play around as root. As I haven't managed to root my FP2 so far, I haven't even managed to work out where the files are, never mind open them up to look at them. I await with interest someone who actually knows what they are talking about giving some input! |

My problem is on Windows. I have no complaint regarding Android - I have a Nokia 8 and a Galaxy Tab S4 both running Boinc just fine, I get prompted for the password. |

BOINC (on Windows, Linux, Mac) consist of two main parts, a client (runs in the background, does most of the work) and a manager (the GUI, runs in the foreground, allows you to control the client). If the client isn't running, the manager won't be able to connect to it and will show all windows and tabs empty. It sounds like you have that problem. Can you open BOINC Manager->Options-Other options and check that "Run the client?" is checked? If it isn't do that. Might as well check that "Enable the manager exit dialog?" is checked, then Save->File->Exit BOINC->acknowledge to stop running any tasks->OK. Then restart BOINC from Start->All Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager. |

Thanks, but I do have to admit to being confused and have to ask why are you looking or trying to look at Android data files? It is possible to use boinccmd and log on just using the strong account key without having the password. I was attempting to find out where the file account_climateprediction.net.xml is stored as that file contains the account key. Edit: Actually, looking for the equivalent for world community grid as CPDN doesn't run on Android. But, as I say this one looks like being beyond me. |

rikuoamero You said in your original post: Same when I try "Use Account Manager". Account Manager will only apply if you used one when you first started. It doesn't include BOINC's Manager. 3 that I know of are: BOINC Account Manager (BAM!) GridRepublic Science United ********************* You also said: There is apparently nowhere for me to sign out of my account or to try entering the new password. You can do that in your Account page on whichever project you signed up for. SETI, perhaps? |
