I just bought a new laptop with Win 10 and have downloaded the latest version of BOINC. The project screensavers will not run. I have Einstein and SETI@home. Only the BOINC logo comes up and says "screensaver loading" but it never does. My old laptop with WIN 7 did just fine with this latest version of BOINC. What do I need to do to get it to work? |

Not so many projects have screen savers now. A lot, like CPDN have dropped them. I don't know about the projects you mention however. |

They were running fine on my old laptop (and still are when I power it up). So both Einstein and SETI do have screensavers. I just can't get them to run on my new laptop. Argh. Not sure if it's a WIN10 problem. |

There were certainly problems with Windows 10 and screensavers after an update early last year Not sure if it was ever fixed. Microsoft are apparently phasing out support for screensavers. It seems not many people run the screensaver any more so there are very few reports of problems or fixes |

Microsoft are apparently phasing out support for screensavers. And modern TFT flat screens don't need 'saving' in the way that old-fashioned CRT monitors did. |

But with all that, make sure you installed drivers from the GPU manufacturer. As these contain the OpenGL component that Windows installed drivers may not. Intel: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ ATI/AMD: https://www.amd.com/en/support Nvidia: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us Where available, do a clean install and reboot after installing is complete. |

Thank you very much for the replies! I'll give the links a try and see if it may help. I personally love the screensavers from Einstein@home and SETI@home. :) |

Don't give all the links a try, you will only have one graphics processing unit (GPU), you will need to check what brand it is, Intel, AMD or Nvidia and only install the driver for that brand. You can also run Microsoft's DirectX diagnostic tool to get this information: 1. From the Start menu, open the Run dialog box. 2. Type dxdiag. 3. Click on the Display tab of the dialog that opens to find graphics card information. |
