Hello I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to merge Boinc Teams? I've tried to do various Google searches and haven't come up with anything substancial. Basically the teams which were originally created for CastleCops were created by someone else and were incorrectly named. I created the new teams correctly named, but was subsequently made the founder of the original incorrectly named teams. Now I can't seem to change the name of the old team, it appears the new team still exists despite the fact that I'm not a member of that team anymore. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this in. |

You can't merge teams, individual accounts etc. |

Greetings, Jord, just to clarify this... 1) If a team name had a space in it, are you saying that you can't edit the team name - effectively renaming it? Specifically, the team "Castle Cops" can't be changed to "CastleCops" by simply deleting the space? (Obviously, retaining the existing stats!) 2) Points from one team can't be transferred to another? Thus, team "B"'s stats can't be transferred to "A", so that the latter's stats are A's plus B's combined? Kindest regards, Dragan Glas Team CastleCops Chief Host http://www.castlecops.com |

1) If a team name had a space in it, are you saying that you can't edit the team name - effectively renaming it? If you change the team name through Team Management functions, your team name will change to whatever you rename it to. Even if you type in Blue Circled Balls. 2) Points from one team can't be transferred to another? You can't join together teams. You can by name, but all the credit accumulated prior to joining together will stay at the separate teams. Your team and all people in in will start from zero credit for that team. Credits always stay with the participant. When he hops teams, the credit he earned for the first team stays with that team, he starts from zero at the next team. His own credit stays with him. He may be added as a 32,005 credit person, but the team doesn't get that 32,005 credit. According to his new team he starts from zero. |

I think you can edit team names, but there is no way to merge teams. |

Greetings, Jord and MikeMarsUK, thank you for the replies! ;D Just to give you some background, if I may... Our site has, at present, two teams: 1) "Castle Cops" - the original, *unofficial* team founded by seafsee; 2) "CastleCops" - the new, *official* team founded by Robin Laudanski (co-founder of CastleCops (TM) and Head of the Team CastleCops Committee), who started this thread under the name CastleCops. This was done in the belief that we could transfer everything from the unofficial to the official team. As this is not the case, we'll have to approach it differently! ;D To my knowledge, seafsee is no longer the "founder" of "Castle Cops" - could you confirm this, please, as I don't have access to that information. Also, Robin (perhaps as "CastleCops" ??) is now the "founder" of the above team - having replaced seafsee in this role. So, please tell me if the following plan will work... 1) Note whatever stats have been accrued by the new (official) team "CastleCops", take these as the "final" figures for the team - then disband/delete the team; 2) Edit the unofficial team's name to change it from "Castle Cops" to "CastleCops" - thus renaming the unofficial team as the official one whilst retaining all members/WUs/credits/stats/etc; [Our own stats gurus can then effectively "combine" the two teams' stats by adding the deleted new team's stats to the renamed official team's figures - in the form of constants. The reason for deleting the new team in step 1 being that, I'm sure, it is not possible for two teams to exist with the exact same name.] Really, though, it is the two steps mentioned above which would ideally resolve the current situation! If you could confirm this, both the two step procedure and the "founders" and who has sole admin rights, that would be great! You'll have to ask on the individual project boards. These boards don't deal with project specific issues. And none of the moderators here (or at the other projects for that matter) have access to the databases unless they are part of the official project staff (look for Project Scientist, ect under their names). Greetings, Thank you, Kathryn, for the reply...although I'm somewhat confused by it. From Jord's earlier answer... 1) If a team name had a space in it, are you saying that you can't edit the team name - effectively renaming it? ...I understood that it was a simple procedure to do so. Are you saying that editing the overall team's name might have different effects for each one of the projects within the team? In other words, some projects might keep their data (members/WUs/credits/stats) and others may not? Kindest regards, Dragan Glas Team CastleCops Chief Host http://www.castlecops.com |

It looks like you had edited your post after I responded to you. I don't know much about team functions becaues I'm not a team founder. But these boards are only for the BOINC software itself. Anything to do with questions about modifying teams and accounts in the database has to be handled through the individual projects. Kathryn :o) |

Jord said: ... When he hops teams, the credit he earned for the first team stays with that team ... Except for the climate projects, where credit leaves with the person. This is because a special program had to be written to deal with a problem caused by BOINC sometimes allocating the credits at the completion of a model, even though they were allocated at intervals all the way through the model. Some people got the "bonus" credits and some didn't, leading to complaints. There were a lot of problems fixing this, so when it was found that a copy of credits didn't 'stick' with a team after a member left, it was said: No more fiddling with the credits! |

Greetings, Thank you both for your answers. I think the simplest thing to do, at this point, is for the "founder" to try to change the name of the newer team (with only a few hundred credits) and see if/how the projects within it are affected. Thank you everyone for your replies. I actually disbanded the second team as I was the only member of it and joined the original team and was made the founder, but it still doesn't allow me to remove the space. I would like to remove it as our name is a registered service mark. |
