I've run into an odd problem. I first installed Boinc about a week ago and attached to Seti@home and Rosetta@home. I'm running a dual processor machine and Boinc originally used both processors to full extent (one for Seti and one for Rosetta). Recently, Boinc uses only one processor and I can't figure out why. If I run CPU disgnostics, the messages window reports 1 processor. However, Boinc's XML data files seem to indicate 2 processors: client_state.xml: <p_ncpus>2</p_ncpus> (every file with a "p_ncpus" tag indicates 2 processors) I also run Gkrellm and I can see both processors are active. So it's not a hardware problem. My preferences set "Max CPUs" to 0. So it shouldn't be a preferences problem either. Is there anything I can do to encourage Boinc or bootstrap it into using both processors? It may be irrational, but unless Boinc uses both processors, I'm tempted to remove it completely. It seems the Boinc general preferences page changes. There's no lnger a Max CPUs option, and it's replacement was set to "1." The new option doesn't seem to support setting the value to 0 (to use all processors). Anyway, I changed the setting to "2" and updated through Boinc. Everything seems to be back to the way it was previously. |
