Hello, I started with einstein@home. Everthing worked fine, until I added cosmology@home just out of curiosity. Now the BOINC manager seemed to be unable to communicate with the client ("Retrieving status..."), until I detached the cosmology project using boinccmd and terminal. Is this know behaviour, what could I do to switch between projects using the manager? Or is it too unstable to handle multiple projects? I'm using the Ubuntu package version: 7.6.31 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu. Ubuntu 16.04. Thanks, Michael |

The usual problem with the manager under Linux is permissions. The BOINC client runs as a daemon as user boinc. You login and run the manager so its whatever user you login as. What I do to work around this is add a desktop launcher (I am running Debian). In the properties for the launcher I specify the password. The command line would be “boincmgr —password xxx” where xxx is whatever password you have in gui_rpc_auth.cfg assuming its non-blank. MarkJ |

What's the password in gui_rpc_auth.cfg anyway? I only know I defined pwd's for the different projects. And why should defining a password for the Manager improve the connection to the client - wouldn't I have to run the Manager as boinc user aswell? Thanks. |
