I recently get an error within the Manager called "connection failed". After a bit of searching and looking I found out the boinc.exe was not running - obviously it SHOULD be started by the manager itself. Runnung the exe-file manually makes the manager working...but that's definately NOT what I'm intended to do...every single time something crashes. I didn't change anything on my machine, am connected to the Internet via router (with no change since the program already worked for several time), no new firewall oder Antivirus Scanner (was already present before - with no problems) etc. pp. and so on. I'm on the SETI-project and really looking forward solving this issue soon... |

Are you getting this problem when you first start up your machine or log it? It's not uncommon, especially on slower machines or systems with lots of things that run at startup to have the BOINC Daemon (which runs the show in the background) not fully started when the BOINC Manager starts up. The Manager starts, doesn't see the background process running, and tosses an error. Next time this happens, try going up to the File menu, pick Select Computer, and then hit OK. Usually works for me. If that doesn't do it, just type in localhost in the Host Name: box. HTH! (j) James |
