Different question, what is the password window you see? Is it the one for the password for the computer host? Where does it say invalid password? |

Different question, what is the password window you see? The "invalid password..." message box appears by the Windows Notification Tray as a 'pop-up message (just like when there are new project notices to view) hovering on/above the BOINC tray icon after it gets a RED dot in it. |

Does it look like this one? Is the wording in the text area exactly the same? |

the "invalid password" bug has not surfaced in the 20+ hours I have stopped requesting work on WCG. Later today I will remove WCG from my 4 PC's and re-add with HTTPS url (which I thought was done a while back but maybe not) and see if the problem returns after a day or two. Will post back with results. |

Detached one PC (Win-x64 Vista) and reattached to WCG via HTTPS. Must be something odd with WCG Scheduler url - Reattached using https but BOINC project properties is still showing project url as http. Still getting the strange "ALPN, server did not agree to a protocol" message: 1/19/2017 13:24:39 | World Community Grid | [http] [ID#2754] Received header from server: Will check the WCG forums later on when have more time to see if there is anything reported there about this. |

Definitely seems to be related to the "ALPN, server did not agree to a protocol" ERROR. Possibly WCG is the culprit? See below. Just came across 1 PC (Win x-64 8.1 ) with latest BOINC that got the password error message in last few hours. Exited BOINC, waited 2 minutes to restart BOINC... less than 2 minutes after restart, IT CRASHED AGAIN! Looking at the log file it has just "talked" to WCG when crashing. Looked in the main system Windows error logs for anything and there was NOTHING there about the crash. STRANGE. I have saved the BOINC error log file from the restart crash and can upload it via email or private message to who ever needs to look at it. |

Hello. The BOINC program available for download (7.6.33) does not come with any checksum information. I respectfully suggest that this information be provided. Last year I downloaded the BOINC client through World Community Grid (which they brand as "World Community Grid software), and the checksum did not check out properly. I contacted them and they fixed the issue. I realize that this is a different version than what is available here, and that they are a different entity than boinc.berkeley.edu. But still - it illustrates the fact that checksum info is important. Would it be possible for checksum info to be provided for your BOINC program? Thank you. |

I think WCG always had their "own version" of Boinc, packaged by Berkeley (if I'm not wrong ?), I remember translating some specific items long ago in BTS. |

It's a modified version it appears and an older version: 7.2.47 Maybe the BOINC team should send them a note to update their client or just point to BOINC download page? |

The World Community Grid version is the same as Berkeley BOINC, but with a different skin (Simple view) and it pings the IBM server (I think) instead of Google when checking that the internet connection is OK. It was built by Rom Walton, just as Berkeley BOINC was. With Rom no longer available to us, I wouldn't expect a new WCG version out any time soon. Not unless they manage to get Rom to do it for them, or that he teaches someone how to do so. |

I use the regular Boinc with WCG projects since months without any problem. I see no need to use their version. |

They make claims about "heightened security" with their version, don't know the details... My Detailed BOINC Stats |

In other words, they say regular Boinc is insecure. ;) Anyway, it's not necessary to use theirs. |

This may have nothing to do with this, but I am no longer able to get my notices. Safari launches and I get a message that Safari can't connect to the server. "Safari can't open page 'local host' because Safari can't find server 'local host'. This just started happening. |

Anyone with the notices problem on OS X 10.12.4, please read through this thread, as in this post there is a fix for this issue on the Mac: If you go to https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php you can download 7.6.34 which fixes that problem on OS X 10.12.4 |

Notices: OS Sierra 10.12.5 : Gives message of: "Safari Can't Open the Page. Safari can't opt the page "localhost" because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait a few minutes, and then try again." Cannot get notices. Waiting does not help. On-line "fixes" seem to all be for other versions of Safari. Somewhat annoying when things don't work correctly. |

Have you downloaded the latest Mac-OS release BOINC version 7.6.34 ? This fixes this problem which originated in Mac-OS 12.10.4. I am running 12.10.5 and the problem does not occur on my machine when running the latest BOINC version for Mac-OS. Art Masson |
