I have participated in find@home and from some time there were no jobs from the project. Today on November 25, 2016, suddenly it's name itself got changed to Fight Neglected Diseases in the boinc manager. Multiple attempts of file downloads for the project failed with some of the errors shown in the event log are as follows.

They are moving the project back-end services to a new location under the auspices of GridRepublic, and there are clearly teething troubles: I suggest you keep an eye on recent posts in the project message-board thread at

Edit - looks like they've sorted out the code signing key problem, and work is downloading, crunching, and being returned without problems. But I think they still have some less critical problems to sort out.

As the guy ranked 10th in the USA for this project, I recommend WAITING and using caution.
It looks like the original team for Fight Malaria at Home sold it to GridRepublic (which is for-profit and only allows subscribers to run charity work when all for-profit work is completed). In particular, that means that we could be giving free research to the pharmaceutical industry which they can use to overcharge people in the future.

Months ago we were told that GridRepublic would be providing server space, but at this point it looks like our contributions are their profit, and that they'll point to our contributions and say that they, GR, are charitable.

A few posters, including myself have asked direct questions on the forms, and we have not yet gotten a direct answer.

At this point I can at least confirm that it is no longer associated with the University College of Dublin, and that the antimalarial drug discovery is finished and the work is already published. So the Project Description is highly misleading!

It appears that FiND staff (Dublin, Ireland) gave GridRepublic (Boston, USA) the FiND project, Boinc user accounts and all.
GridRepublic seem to be (and correct me if I'm wrong) sending Charity Engine tasks to FiND account users.
Charity Engine seems to be a trade name for the Limited (for profit) company (registered in the UK) The Worldwide Computer Company Limited whose share holders include David Anderson.
This company appears to sell our computing resources.

Why would Dave have to let you know what Gridrepublic is doing? He's not involved with either the former project or Gridrepublic.

If you have an issue, I'd suggest contacting European authorities. They're more paranoid about user data than the FTC. They'd have to make a determination whether that data was legally transferred in part or whole.

This whole change as been nothing but a nightmare for me and most of today.
It Corrupted my BAM! Usage and Reset my Projects today on all of my computers.
I have stop running this Project until they get their act together .

At the level of technical logistics there have been some changes at the project, but I don’t think there have been any changes with respect to the concerns expressed here in this thread.

Maybe by way of preliminaries, it’d be useful to clarify some of the participants:

• FightNeglectedDiseases@home, aka Find@home, is a BOINC project (*the project was formerly named Fight Malaria at Home, aka FMaH; but changed names a while back, in 2014 I think.)
  
  
• GridRepublic is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We’ve been contributors to the BOINC platform and community for more than a decade. We provide means to make it easier for volunteers to discover and participate in BOINC projects; and we provide back-end infrastructure and services to projects like GridRepublic.org, Progress Thru Processors and Charity Engine.
  
  
• Charity Engine is a for-profit company. The business model is to run commercial work as a means to generate revenue for “physical” charities (and regular prize draws).
  

Now a little background on recent events at the project:

• A while back, Charity Engine donated many millions of hours of compute time to FiND@home. Nothing was paid for this; and nothing was asked in return. (Similar support has been provided to Rosetta@home, Einstein@home, and Malariacontrol.net.)
  
  
• Please note that no Charity Engine work has ever run on FiND/FMaH hosts (*nor Rosetta, Einstein, or MalariaControl), and never will.
  
  
• More recently, FiND@home was facing difficulties due to lack of funding. We at GridRepublic offered to support the project, which we think has great potential. So we’ve moved parts of the backend to our systems.
  

Current work and moving forward:

• The batch of work run previously at FiND/FMaH was only a subset of the available Malaria data — e.g. only a fraction of the compounds, and a fraction of the relevant biology. We aspire to run a much more complete set of data, which will be more than 1 billion jobs. Same application, same process; and data is to be published. Ie: the same project but at a much larger scale. (*So far, we’ve just re-run some old data, investigating setup issues.)
  
  
• Charity Engine will start running this new batch of work as well. (*Because we’re running the application in both environments, FiND and CE, we used the appname CE12 instead of the name previously used by FiND/FMaH; apologies for any confusion on this point.)
  
  
• Additionally, we aspire to undertake other drug discovery projects in the future. As a rule in these endeavors, any new research areas to be run on FiND/FMaH hosts (ex. other neglected diseases) will be announced in forums, and results will be published.
