Hello there,

im crunching for years with windows and i like the idea of boinc. Unfortunately yesterday my system crashed and windows was gone. Best idea to move on to Linux. My prefered target was Linux Mint in the KDE Version. Great OS!

I want to continue crunching under Linux but i got a big problem. Everytime i start my Boinc Manager, ( 7.2.42(x64) i cant connect to any projects. Boinc simple gets no connection.
In Boinc on the right bottom is the "localhost section" after a while there stand connection Interrupted.

Hope you can help me with my problem

I apologize for my bad english, because my school are far away. :(

Cheers
Acid

Hello, Mint is Debian based so you should be able to install from the standard Debian repos.

See debian wiki

Good luck.

Hello,

boinc is installed and runs. The only problem is that boinc cant connect to projects and i cant add any projects to work with. Usefull could be the ports that boinc uses for incoming and outgoing communication. Could someone tell me them?

boinc uses TCP ports 80 and 443 for project communication

If you are having problems please post on Questions and Problems forum, you will find it gets more visitors, and it is more likely a search will find similar problems there.

I find the "sticky" posts in that forum very helpful.

On all my Debian boxes, there are some problems with connection to worldcommunitygrid, due to ca-certificates updated, and an insecure thing I've not really understood...
If I'm not wrong, Mint is fork from Debian?

If you want to test on your Mint box, here is a workaround (command by root account), it's working for some of us :
wget http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20141020T103752Z/pool/main/c/ca-certificates/ca-certificates_20141019_all.deb

dpkg --purge --force-depends ca-certificates

dpkg -i ca-certificates_20141019_all.deb

>> Try to communicate with the main server in your Boinc Manager, and it will be ok.
Or if it's another problem, please give us the logs ;)

Hope this will help !

The OP indicates that the BOINC Manager fails to connect to a running core client. Delete the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file, restart core client and try again. If not, you can still execute the project attach commands with the boinccmd tool.
