I installed BOINC on a computer that I don't intend to use very often. Maybe 5 times a day for 10 minutes each. I wanted to set it up so that when I was using the computer, BOINC paused and let me do my work. Then, when I was finished, BOINC would pick up where it left off. I set my preferences for BOINC not to run while the computer was busy, with an idle time of 5 minutes. I figured I was set. However, when the BOINC screen saver comes on, it reports that BOINC is currently suspended. It goes on to suggest in strong language that I set BOINC to run all the time. It is only when I click "Run always" that it resumes. What gives? Why should I have to restart BOINC when I'm done using the computer? I don't WANT to "Run always," damn it. What's the problem? |

Please, I'd really like to know either how to run BOINC only when the computer is idle, or whether this is a bug. Thanks. |

The boinc processes run at a very low priority level, so shouldn't affect the use of the machine at all (unless it's low on memory, and paging stuff). Some people have reported problems with the idle time detection, I don't use it myself so can't comment (I leave boinc running even when I'm using the PC, unless I want to play a game in which case I right-click the icon and 'snooze'). |

I note that earlier posts on another thread were removed. That is fine. My objections stand. Unhappy customer |
