Why did BOINC announce new ALPHA projects that have disabled membership in alpha test to about 50 people each? what about Chess360@home or primegrid that are in Beta?

I cannot read their minds (collective or singular - whichever), but my IMHO they are simply announcing (making us aware) of new projects or worksites. Since each project is controlled separately, the decision as to the number of ALPHA testers lies with the controlling group, not with BOINC.

In ths respect, BOINC is more like a bus -- simply a way of getting to one workplace or another and back again, however, the bus company does not control the "hiring" of workers at the various sites ...

What he means is that in the 'old' days only projects that went public and out of alpha/beta got a headline in the BOINC (RSS) news. (I can even remember someone high up in the ranks giving this reason when asked to put the news about a project on BOINC). Now every new project seems to get attention as soon as the emerge.

More than likely because they have asked for this, but who knows
