It's "I know it better than you, I don't like your answers, I demand to be heard by the project staff" day over at Seti, it seems. I do hope none of those come here.

Such behaviour becomes a specator sport when you sort them out ;-)

I had one yesterday that had been crunching for SETI@Home for even longer than I have. But still didn't realise that the 'problem' he was complaining about was the consequence of his own inappropriate actions.

The usual thing: "I'll fix that server by nuking my own computer"

Well, I'll have to apologize to Bernie, as I didn't see her go at that same thing in the News thread until after I'd answered her in the Wish List thread, he'd locked the thread and I'd PM'ed him about that.

But you will be in trouble if she does come here... I'm about sure, you are the only one to answer her from here on out. ;-)

Thanks Jord, I will take such action up with the appropriate authorities - if I can be bothered!

Cracking good idea. That's the EU screwed then. Who do you want to start with first? Dear old Angela or Herr Drunker?

Message 83535 - Posted: 4 Dec 2017, 17:05:38 UTC

I've just received a letter (dated 9th November) from Western Union telling me that suspicious activity (that may or may not be attributable to unauthorized access of my account) has been passed to law enforcement for active investigation because I have not responded to any of their emails.

I haven't responded to any of their emails because I haven't received any. I haven't received any because, until an hour ago, I have never had any dealings with Western Union ever before - and I only had then, because that's when I rang them - and went through a gajillion "options" to be finally put into a queue to talk to a human, who - instead of accepting that someone might very well have been using my address for money transfers (by phone app :/ apparently) "can't do anything about changing their records" unless I email them a photograph of myself and a photo or scanned image of the letter and a photo/scanned image of my passport details for them to "check against their records"

So I lost my manners and told them to have me sectioned first.

:/

I'm not happy now.

Anyone with half a braincell knows that Western Union are the scammers " friend " coz they take their cut , you wasted money on the phone call and your time even bothering !!

Maybe it would have halted your opinion of me sinking even further than it has already if I'd mention I'd dialled 141 before placing the call to the 0808 Freephone number I obtained for W U, Mark - but thank you for your comment nevertheless :)

I'll apply the less than half a braincell to the waste of my time though, if that makes you happy?

annie,

It sure sounds and smell like a SCAM to do Identity Theft. I recall some years back here in the USA there was the same type of scam being sent via postal mail for many months before it was shut down by the authorities.

This "official looking" document is nothing more than something some scammers made up to scare you into doing what is lined out in the fake document (Take your money and or steal you identity).

Here is a web page for the U.K. on Western Union Fraud and where to call, email or report via the internet:
https://www.westernunion.com/gb/en/fraudawareness.html

Think you've been scammed?
Report it. You can help us and, in the process, help others from getting scammed in the future.
Call our Fraud Hotline at 0800 026 0309
Forward suspicious emails to spoof(at)westernunion(dot)com
File a fraud complaint (via the internet)

Thank you, Dr Who Fan. I forgot to come back to read the thread. Can't think why particularly... ;)

I've had it with the threats against me. Not sure what he was thinking, apparently he was not.
If you can't behave, just go away to a place where they'll condone your behaviour.

For future references:
Jord:
You're doing a great job in a difficult and thankless role.
Please keep it up.
I ignore emails from wackos.
(and I doubt that Stuart Bale even knows what BOINC is).

(I wonder if that means that David will now get complaints about him not reading the previous complaints)

That is useful to know. Thank you. I don't send many emails that aren't ignored to be honest... so I barely bother now. Saves so much time :)

Hope everyone has a nice weekend :) Fun stuff is always good for that.

Note to hacker self: Annie has lower case passwords ...

Oh keyboard. You need to remove power. Of course by turning off said power you will log out of everywhere. One of those catch 22. If it doesn't work then be prepared for plan B. new keyboard

One way I found to reset a keyboard, but you'll have to be nimble for it: press left CTRL, left SHIFT, left ALT, right CTRL, right SHIFT, right ALT all at the same time and hold for three seconds. That resets the keyboard buffer. (and has been since the days of good old DOS)
