I am dismayed by a post I saw: (so many people post here without reading . . . whatever) - that is the combination of poor technical writing and eliteism. BOINCs help online is not written for the average or beginner user. It is written by computer scientists, not computer users. Perhaps beginner computer users should not work on Berkeley projects?

Now my problem - The programme and first work packet downloaded fine. It took several tries and guesses to get the computer to upload the completed work packet. Now it says it has downloaded four, but is working on none of them. I am lost. I know nothing of what a "Wiki" is except for "Wikipedia." Is there any hope of getting the programme started again, or must I dump the programme and re-download it?

On a side note, yesterday when I created my account, it gave me all the stuff you need to start. To-day, the website says my account did not exist. I recreated it, but I do not understand what happened. Macros send my addy and password, there was no chance of error creating it the first time.

OK: I'm no computer expert, but let me try to help.

First, what projects are you attached to?

Second, how do you have BOINC installed (single user or service) and what version are you using and your OS too?

Third, what are your preferences with regards to doing work while the computer is being used (you can find this in your general preferences under "your account" on the project webiste)?

Fourth, did you somehow accidently suspend activity in the manager?

Fifth, we you trying to use your project registration to post to these boards??? You have to register separately for these boards and every project you want to run.

Lastly, here's a link to the Wiki. I found it very helpful when I started BOINC-ing.

The Unofficial BOINC Wiki

Remember you can always post on the project boards for help from participants there. People there can give you better advice because they'll be able to see some of your computer information (nothing sensitive, I promise) and the work units assigned to your computer.
