Message 115020 - Posted: 17 Dec 2024, 8:59:34 UTC

Some issues at Rosetta- on Friday (the 13th) they set about cleaning out all of the spam from their forums.
What happened was the loss of over 8,500 user accounts, many of them still very much active crunchers. Cleaning up of the clean-up is progressing, several previously lost accounts have returned.

LHC@home web site has almost completely become empty. Only the banner and project name visible on every page I have a link to on my bookmarks. Example: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/server_status.php
Boinc servers are responding normally though.

OK. The problem seems to be only in Chrome (win10 & win11), Firefox displays the page content normally.
Edit: Can't login with Firefox. I get only an empty page after feeding my login info.
Edit2: Can't login with Edge either. It gives an error:
This page isn’t working right now
lhcathome.cern.ch can't currently handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500

Well, I had an account on Rosetta, a couple of years ago. I don't remember if I ever attached any computers to it. However it seems as if that account no longer exists. "No such account"
I guess they haven't been able to restore all 8,500 user accounts, or perhaps they didn't bother to restore accounts with no credit or attached computers.

If there are no computers attached to it and thus no points it is probably part of their target and has been deleted as a potential spam account.

I think I attached one computer, but I know that I never run any tasks, due to the fact that the computer in question wasn't able to handle any of the tasks that was available back then. So, maybe they didn't bother to restore accounts that had no credit too.

Several projects over the past couple of years some projects have been deleting accounts with no activity for over two years (I may have misremembered the time period) to comply with GDPR regulations. I know with CPDN they were recoverable by Andy but it required the user going via the moderators to Andy who looks after the admin side of the servers.

Numberfields@home doesn't work for me at all. The website won't load, and I can't even get to typing in my login info when selecting the project in the client/manager.

Using a WIndows 10 PC with and AMD ryzen 5700x CPU.

Website is working fine new, and the project admin (Eric Driver) posted an end-of-year report yesterday - everything seems normal, and tasks are being sent / processed / returned.

BOINC's 'attach to project' wizard offers http://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/, but in common with modern practice, all other references start https - might be worth trying that version.

Can you please reply with a link to the project webpage, so I can try and enter the website that way, cause It's still not working for me?

Is it correct that the website is called something like " Arizona state university - number fields at home", and also, I am located in Denmark near Copenhagen, and not using any VPN's, if that info is of any help.

I also have no problem getting the website to load & no problems receiving or sending completed work. From Forth Worth, TX USA.

What web browser are you using?

Maybe you Internet provider has a routing problem or is blocking the site?

Have you tried to do a tracert to the website from a command prompt?
> tracert numberfields.asu.edu

NumberFields@home (yes it's hosted at Arizona State University, USA)
