CPDN off line for maintenance.

Hi All,

We are going to be moving the location of the main application/scheduler and database servers. For this we will need to take the project offline for 3.5 days. This works starts with a taking a copy of the database, during which we need to make sure no changes are made to the database, so we will be taking the project offline over that period. This work needs to start soon. So I will be starting this work in 1 hours time. Sorry for the short notice.

Best wishes,

Andy

From about half an hour after the time stamp on my post assuming all goes to plan. Nothing from Andy saying otherwise though he has sorted out another one or two issues on the testing site.

Which would make it around 4 AM, local time. I think that's unlikely.

Milkyway is mostly down. Can't get any page to refresh due the server congestion with validations pending clogging up the pipes.

Wondering whether 3-5 days rather than 3.5 days is what was meant. I just coppied and pasted from Andy's email.

Well the home page is reachable, but the Server Status page and account login pages time out.
In October 1969 I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
There was no expiration date.

Neither is timing out for me right now. server status page wasn't when it came back up. Home page was reachable throughout. Server status page is showing it last updated about half an hour ago.

Things have gone downhill ever since SETI folded up.
I want over to BoincStats and made the following notes

150 Retired projects
43 active projects (unaccountably includding collatz!)
24 projects that have at least 1 work unit of data.

Out of those 24 projects with data only 9 have enough to be candidates for the next crunching contest.
Out of those 9 there are 2 that currently have data and statistics collection problems and another 3 that have their servers hosted in Russia.

Does anyone have or know of a chart of BOINC project growth / loss?
I am guessing a bell curve would show SETI at the top.
If BOINC was a company there would be shareholders looking for new management.

My 0.02c

Sorry if I offended anyone.

Email sent to Andy. No idea if this is because the work of the change wasn't finished or if there has been a problem or indeed if the server code is being upgraded after that went fairly smoothly on the testing site. I expect to hear something on Monday.

So what?

*sarcasm *
"Oh, oh, oh, it's all gone! The damn Russians will steal all our computations!111" LOL
*sarcasm*

I always hoped that those people who take part in VOLUNTARY computing are not so stupid to blindly hate everything on which an objectionable flag or prefix RU present.

So if you decide to touch on this topic, then write directly and argumentatively what exactly is the problem.

It's been many years that boinc's interest is fading out. Read this if you're not convinced.

But as long as we are here, boinc is here :)

And regarding the "3 projects hosted in Russia"... frankly... no comment.
